The 'Bored' Collection

Boredom is a scarce commodity these days. Almost to the point of extinction. Any time of extended waiting is filled with an endless stream of ‘what’s next?’
So I’m putting boredom on the endangered species list.
Because without the space for our minds to get past the itchiness of slowing down, that part of ourselves that innovates and has interesting ideas and pretty thoughts, the part that has the energy to do something totally new and actually do the work of creating it, that part - it never has the chance to catch up, to breathe, to explore the edges of possibilities. Boredom is essential to growth. It is the quiet nothingness of a seed in the ground, hidden from view, pushing new life through dirt and darkness. Boredom is not a problem to fix but a space to listen.

I want to live a magic—making life, I don’t have time to not be bored every now and then.

The 'Bored' collection evokes nostalgia of a 90’s childhood. The simplicity of life before the internet when boredom was a daily companion, leading to making universes from the mundane. I painted the collection while on my artist residency in the wilds of Tasmania. A week spent entirely off grid at a regenerative retreat called Wild Rest, surrounded by nothing but forest.
